Known in the UK as an award winning, talented actor of stage and screen, unafraid to tackle challenging and controversial roles; Matthew came to international prominence as Mr Darcy in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. Matthew followed this iconic performance by playing Charlie, a sex offender in Secret Life for Channel 4 TV. He received a Best Actor award by the Royal Television Society and was nominated for a BAFTA, also as Best Actor for this controversial role.

Matthew continues to remain busy in 2008. The drama, Incendiary, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2008 to rave reviews. In December 2008, we will see the release of Frost/Nixon, a film of the award winning stage play. Frost/Nixon will be opening the prestigious BFI London Film Festival on 15 October 2008. He appeared in an episode with his wife, Keeley Hawes, in her Television drama, Ashes to Ashes, on BBC in March. Matthew Macfadyen returned to BBC in April when filming began for the Andrew Davies' adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic, Little Dorrit. Matthew has completed filming for the new Agatha Christie movie based on Miss Marple, "A Pocket Full of Rye" in March 2008.
