Real Name: David Matthew Macfadyen

Birth Date: October 17, 1974

Image: Dashing British thespian who has found TV and film fame

Best Known For: Playing Tom Quinn in BBC spy drama Spooks.

Early Life: Born in Great Yarmouth, his mother was an actress and drama teacher. He went on to study at Rada, before becoming a well-respected face in British theatre.

Got his TV breakthrough when he played Hareton Earnshaw in an ITV adaptation of the Emily Bronte novel Wuthering Heights.

Career High: Earlier this year he won the Royal Television Society award for Best Actor for his role in Secret Life.

Love Life: Married to former co-star Keeley Hawes, who he met on Spooks. The couple have a daughter Maggie and son Ralph, and Matthew is step-dad to Keeley's son Myles.

Don't Mention: Reading. Matthew has confessed he hadn't read Jane Austen's novel Pride And Prejudice before starring in the 2005 film adaptation.

Words Of Wisdom: On being so well known for his Spooks role: "The other day, I was somewhere terribly glamorous - Brent Cross, I think it was - and a guy came up to me and said, 'I've blown your cover'."
